Building Permits & Inspections
The Building Department is responsible for the administration and enforcement of
building, electrical, plumbing and gas/mechanical codes. The purpose of the codes is to ensure that construction meets minimum standards to safeguard life or limb, health, property and public welfare.
Who needs a permit?
Any owner or authorized agent who intends to construct, enlarge, alter, repair, move, demolish, or change the occupancy of a building or structure, add any pool, deck, arbor, or storage building or to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert, or replace any electrical, gas, mechanical, or plumbing system, the installation of which is regulated by the International Building Code, or to cause any such work to be done, shall first make application with the building official and obtain the required permit.
We help maintain and improve the quality of our community through our "Code Enforcement" by administering a fair and unbiased enforcement program to correct violations of municipal codes and land use requirements.
The Planning and Zoning serves as a liaison between the public and City government.
The purpose is to promote health, safety, good design, and efficiency while guiding the physical development of the community to meet present and future needs of its citizens, all in accordance with the comprehensive plan and zoning ordinance.
