Internet Explorer says I'm
working offline. How do I get online?
When in offline mode, you can only view web pages
that you have stored on your computer (versus retrieving the pages
from the Internet.) When you attempt to get online, Internet Explorer
will produce a box that reads, "Web page you requested is not available
offline. To view this page, click Connect." You will have the option
to Connect or to Work Offline. Click the Connect button to view the
requested page.

Internet Explorer's Connection
Wizard keeps popping up. How do I get rid of it?
A dial-up
wizard will pop up when you open Internet Explorer if the browser
is not set to connect using your local area network (LAN). To correct
this, click on the Tools menu at the top of your screen and then click
Internet Options. In the window that pops up, click on the Connections
tab at the top. Click the Setup button in the top right-hand corner
of the window.
Now select the option to Connect Manually or through
a local area network (LAN), and click the Next button. Select the
option to Connect using your local area network (LAN), and click the
Next button. Automatic discovery of proxy server, Use automatic configuration
script, and Manual proxy server should NOT be checked.
Click the Next button. Select No when asked to setup
an Internet mail account, and click the Next button. Click the Finish
button, and Internet Explorer will be configured to connect using
your cable modem.

How do I set up my email account
for Outlook Express?
1. In
Outlook Express, click Accounts on the Tools menu.
2. In the Internet Accounts dialog box, click Add, and then click
Mail.
3. In the Display Name box, type the name that you want others to
see when you send a message, and then click Next.
4. In the E-mail Address box, type the e-mail address for the account
that you are using (for example, "johndoe@syrupcity.net"), and then
click Next.
5. Under E-mail Server Names, click the Post Office Protocol version
3 [POP3], and then type the names of your incoming (pop3.syrupcity.net)
and outgoing (smtp.syrupcity.net) e-mail servers. Click Next.
6. Type your account name and password in the POP Account Name and
Password boxes then click Next.
7. Click Finish.

How do I set up my email
account for Netscape Communicator?
Open Netscape, and click on Edit. Then click on
Preferences. A window will pop up. In the left hand column with the
white background, click on the + next to Mail & Newsgroups.
Click on Identity, and on the right hand side of
the page, fill in the information requested. Then, click on Mail Servers
(beneath Identity). On the upper right hand side of the page, you
should see your incoming mail server box. Click the Edit button
A new
window will pop up. Be sure the server name reads pop3.syrupcity.net,
and the server type is POP3. Type in your user name, and be sure to
check the box that reads Remember Password. Click OK and then click
OK again at the next screen
.
You will be returned to the screen where you started. Beneath the
Incoming Mail Server section, you will see Outgoing Mail server. Type
in smtp.syrupcity.net, and type in your username where appropriate.
Click OK. You will have successfully configured your Netscape email!

Outlook Express won't save
my password. Why not?
Outlook Express may not have been configured to
save your password. To turn this option on, open Outlook Express,
and click on Tools. Next click on Accounts, and then click on the
Mail tab.
Now click the Properties button on the right hand
side, and then click on the Servers tab. Near the middle of the page,
you will see your Log On name and Password. Beneath the password box,
check the box that reads Remember password. Click OK and then click
Close.
Outlook Express will ask you for your password one
last time but should not ask for it again.

Netscape Messenger won't
save my password. Why not?
Netscape may not have been configured to save your
password. To turn this option on, open Netscape Messenger, and click
on Edit. Click on Preferences. A window will pop up. Click the + next
to Mail & Newsgroups, and then click on Mail Servers. On the upper
right hand side of your screen, you will see 3 buttons. Click on the
Edit button. A new window will pop up. Near the middle of the new
window, you will see your Username, and beneath it, you can check
the option to Remember Password. Click OK, and click OK again. You
will need to enter your password one more time, and after that, Netscape
should not ask you for your password.

No, at this time, you cannot connect to syrupcity.net
via dial-up.

Can I get my email when I'm away from my computer
or on a trip?
Yes, Syrupcity.net has an interface so you can get
your email away from your home or office. If you have access to the
Internet, direct your Internet Browser to http://webmail.syrupcity.net.
This web email is available anywhere you have Internet access.

How many email addresses
do I have?
Syrupcity.net accounts by default come with one
email address. Additional email addresses are available for only $2.50
each per month.

What is my homepage
address?
A syrupcity.net
user's web page address is based on the username/email selected when
the service was installed. For instance, if you chose johndoe as your
username, your personal web space address is listed as http://www.syrupcity.net/~johndoe.
