Economic Development Manager

Compensation Range: $60,000 - $75,000 annually, based on qualifications and experience
Position Summary
The Economic Development Manager is responsible for advancing the City of Cairo’s economic growth by supporting business development, managing projects, and coordinating initiatives that strengthen the local economy.
This position works closely with the City Manager, Mayor and Council, local partners, and developers to move projects forward, support existing businesses, and identify new opportunities for investment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Economic Development & Business Support
- Support efforts to attract new businesses and retain existing industries
- Serve as a point of contact for business inquiries, developers, and prospects
- Assist in identifying and promoting available sites and development opportunities
- Coordinate with regional and state partners on economic development initiatives
Project Coordination
- Track and assist with economic development projects from initial inquiry through completion
- Coordinate with City departments to ensure timely review and progress of projects
- Monitor timelines, follow up on action items, and keep projects moving
Grants & Incentives
- Identify and assist with grant opportunities (CDBG, OneGeorgia, GEFA, etc.)
- Coordinate with consultants and staff on grant applications and administration
- Assist with incentive packages and development-related agreements
Partnerships & Community Development
- Work with the Downtown Development Authority (DDA), Chamber of Commerce, and regional partners
- Support small business development and downtown revitalization efforts
- Assist with workforce housing and community development initiatives
Marketing & Communication
- Assist in promoting the City as a competitive location for business and development
- Help develop marketing materials and outreach efforts
- Represent the City at meetings, events, and community functions
Administrative & Reporting
- Prepare reports, updates, and presentations for the City Manager and Council
- Track key metrics such as jobs created, investment, and project activity
- Maintain organized records of projects, contacts, and agreements
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Public Administration, Business, Economic Development, or related field preferred
- 3–5 years of experience in economic development, planning, business development, or a related field
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
- Basic understanding of economic development tools, incentives, and funding sources
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Strong organization and follow-through
Work Environment
- Office setting with regular meetings and community engagement
- Occasional evening meetings (Mayor & Council)
- Limited travel for meetings and training
